It was a unique time to be racing when they ran that car. I remember a Summernationals that there were lots of SS/I cars and when they got down to 3 cars for class I saw them crawl under their car in staging lanes and drain some oil out. I was a 20 year old then and that was the first time I saw that done. I am pretty sure in those years they weighed the cars without the driver, so Ron was a pretty light guy so he would be the obvious choice to drive .

I think they should have kept the Super Mods. I had a C/SM one year. Was told, late in the seaon by a Modified Production racer that "The rest of us don't like those Super Modified cars, and should not be in Mofified Eliminator, and are glad you lost the points lead at this last race. We don't want to have one of those cheap cars going to the World Finals as our divion 4 champ points champ".
I lost the points lead by one round at the last race. First negative thing said to me about my car and class all year. Was not aware how the other guys felt. Not going to name the guy. I had liked him. He wasn't very fast at the time. He got fast in latter years, won the points deal.

A very fast SS/I Camaro! Those guys and Randy Smith (Same Combo) were the guys to beat in SS/I They did not have much luck against Bernie " The Bayonne Bomber" Agaman in the Eliminator though! Bernie was "The Man" in Division 1 Super Stock!
