I've always thought that with a new race and winner every 30 to 60 seconds, drag racing should promote itself as the best sport for people who have Attention Deficit Disorder. At most, you pay attention for 16 seconds or so, then you take a break, then you watch a whole new event!

Don't tell me that we couldn't come up with something as competitive as an Arm Drop? Now with the controversy with Street Racer(Dumb Dumber). NHRA should be on top of this with some intelligent programming towards Racers, Fan and would be participants. Competition Eliminator, Stock &Super Stock has all the Diva's, premadonnas,we have Cooters, Swampers, Wife and Husbands of the South,North,East $West, also Low Rollers and High Rollers, people who can talk from under the car and over the car, We even have nudity, RV's and animal lovers(should give us some PETA love). Forget the pro's you're loosing a fortune paying ESPN 3 for broadcasting that garbage. Promote the little guy, bracket racing(cars only, no tubes) would be an improvement over the pro crap. Come on NHRA get with the program! Claude Ruel

It'll never happen, but just bringing back modified would help that a lot.

I would not waste my time and money entering an event where the qualifiers are based on these parameters. I need to have a legitimate shot at taking home some money every time I race to keep my racing program alive.
I feel for you dude. If I had to depend on my winnings to race I would have been done in the back in the sixties. It's a hobby to me. I do it because I love it not because of the chance to win money. There are cheaper ways to make money.

Absolutely. On both accounts. Everyone has an idea about how to fix NHRA, when class racing is withering on the vine. I don't see a reversal of that trend any time soon. Probably never. We may be the last of the breed.

I'm curious about the statistics. How many young people have shown up as new drivers in class racing since 2010? How many between 18-24, how many 25-34, how many 35-42, etc? Break it out by division, then graph it. Heck, the analysis should probably go back to 2000 or even earlier.

We may not like what we see.

Times have changed, and we definitely should be thankful for what we have now.

Vic, I've been a number one fan of NHRA since I was in short pants but it doesn't mean that someone is sleeping at the switch or someone is selling us short. I have been promoting and preserving our sport through my Jr Stocker Facebook that many have enjoyed reliving the way it use to be but sometimes, you have to be progressive and move forward with new idea when old ones do not work.I look at the cost that NHRA is paying to promote the pros(at a phenomenon price) which means if you have to pay someone to broadcast your junk, it must not be that good in the first place. I hope you all understand, what I was trying to say here. Nhra could produce a program with that just right producer that can bring the best and wholesome NHRA participants can bring. What better than wheels-up racing, side by side and to the fraction racing. I gave Pinks all out as an example(You have to give them their fair share of taps on the back), take the time and watch a segment, the crowd is there from beginning to end, so don't tell me I'm full of it. They can produce one hell of a show if they try! You might not have anyone go out and build a class car but you might just win a fan for life.Claude Ruel

A few years ago when Pinks was in its heyday I talked to several couples who drove hundreds of miles to a pinks show. I ask if they had been to Topeka for the Nationals( 128 miles ) they said no.
When I ask what they liked about the pinks show they said everybody was happy and they had a good ,fun time.
Just look at all the drag race forums on the net ,and all you see is people who are bitching about NHRA and almost everything else.
If something don't change its going to keep up a downward spiral.I would rather have my local track pack the stands with a Pinks show as watch the 30 spectators who show up on a normal race night. At least they can pay their bills.
The entertainment media is changing ,drag racers can change with it or watch it go down the tubes.
Most spectators do not know or care about the detail and talent that goes into a Class legal car. Some tracks are getting a second wind with Nostalgia events, but there are no young people at these. When we die the at venue will also.
Just my opinion ,I'm just a poor bracket racer.
