I have a Snap On compressor that uses the batteries from my Snap On Cordless Impact that is small, lightweight and works good. All my friends borrow it.

I have the one that Quartermax (Rick Jones) used to sell. Works great if you need something to throw when your pissed off. It is a POS for trying to put air in tires and will piss you off to the point you WILL throw it .

A friend of mine has one from Bickel and I carry my Sears in the trunk. Works great.

I would suggest the Jump start with built in compressor. It is a little heaver to deal with but you get the added benefit of being able to boost the car should the need arise.

The compressor in mine isn't worth throwing away. Probably just got a bad one.
