I think you're better off with the 250. 20 more cu. in. and only 5 HP more. Everything else is the same, i.e. head, intake, cam, carb.

Only thing, I don't know if you can add enough weight to run V. If it has to run W it's a loser idea having to run against the 8 cyl. cars. How do I know? I tried it and realized I was beating my head against the wall. But that was way back when 8 cyl cars (damn 273 Mopar station wagons) could run V and when it was a 21 lb. class.

As Mark said, not a great combo. What's weak about it? The carb is too small.

Mark, as one "weird" guy to another, I prefer "eccentric".
Anthony, you can send me a PM and I will let you in on what you'll need.
P.S. I'd love to see that car with a 4 speed in V/S.

Bob, it's 15 more hp > 140 factory vs 155
.280 stroke is all you get . Not worth 300 lbs

(same carb on 230, smaller motor)

The reason I would not build a crate motor car where you live is MONEY. Unless you have one the lottery you can't compete against those UNDERATED MOPARS. You can't hide from them either because they run nearly every class.

Red face Re: 68 Camaro 6cyl. stocker need help!

in IHRA the 250 is 140hp & the 230 is 135 hp Mark.....that being said the 250 crank is a good 18Lbs heavier!!!!! THE 250 WILL NOT RUN WITH THE 230 EVEN @ THE SAME WEIGHT! All the pistons that are approved for the 283 are also approved for the 230 ....the 250 has like 3 pistons to chose from....Now then what money do you want to spend???? I can tell you what to buy ....but it's not a cheap combo (if you want to go fast....it you want to run the index VERY cheap)

You're right Mark. I see NHRA still has the '68 250 rated at 155 HP.
My '73 is only rated at 145 and I assumed that would be accross the board.
In that case, yes the 230 would be a much better choice.
IHRA has only a 5 HP difference between the two motors.
And Billy's right about he'd like to see it with a 4 speed.
When I changed my '69 Nova from an automatic to a stick, it picked up .5ths & a little over 2 MPH. And that was going to a 3 speed manual. The Camaro is allowed a 4 speed.
