I'm not actually going to run it in stock. Im going to foot break it at my local track, just enjoy the stocker style cars and want to build this one like that.

Since you're going to footbrake it in brackets,,you can go with any engine/trans combo you want of course. Since those cars were leaf springs from the factory, you might want to consider going the Cal-Tracs route. Their system of split leafs on the rear for different ride heights plus the bars should plant the tires. they've also recently come out with their own front shocks, and also carry Ranchos for the rear.
I'd give them a call and tell them what you want to do,and they'll steer you the right direction. Good luck with your project,,I used to play around with a small block 4speed Bel-Air myself, and if I still had it today I'd put the Cal-Trac stuff on it. Their add is in the National Dragster.
