I broke a bearing cap on my 489 case. Destroyed the ring and pinion. Had to take the trans out to check the over running clutch.
It has not happend on the 742. John Dinkel

I would definitely be interested in a couple sets of 5.00 pro gears but for a 742 case only. I have run the 742 case for over 35 years ... I think the straight pinion is much stronger than the tapered ... Jim Nichols did the same thing John Dinkle did to his 489 case, busted the bearing caps off both sides. I have broken at least 4 ring and pinion sets in a 742 case and I am still using the same case ...

I also broke a 489 cap which took out the ring ,pinion and transmission on the class final at Indy. I have seen the new 489 case's and they apear to be much stronger than the older ones.
Thanks |

I would be interested in two sets pro gear and 489 case only. The new 489 cases comes ready out-of-the-box, no need for billet caps, and easier to assemble.
Thanks David Buckner STK 4772 |

I will take one set, but would prefer the 742 case. I have knocked the caps off too many 489 housings. But I will take the 489 if that is what it takes to get it done.

Thanks everyone for all the input and replies, not to dicourage any of you but they will not be making any of the Pro gear sets, at the current time we are working on getting sets built for the 742 case only at this time. i was told there will be about a 4-5 month duration to get these built! i was told it's a tooling thing. we hope to have the first 50 sets availible about April. thanks again,

Hey Jim ( and other Racers ), We can Cryogenic Process and/or Rem Finish your gear sets. I wouldn't even worry if they weren't Pro Gears. I can't get Pro Gears for my car. ( 742 case 4.56 ). Ask # 1 qualifier at most Div.3 races - Chuck Beach - if he's broken any gears lately! Or better yet, what changes he made to his car that increased his performance this past year. Or ask, Michael Beard, Jeff Day, Scott Macy, John Dinkle, Phil Baldichino, Cheatin' Charlie Downing, to name a few, what they think. You can expect 2 to 3 times the gear life with quieter, better performance. It's cheap insurance. Thanks, Jim Bailey

How much of that is from the cryo treatment, and how much is from the rem finishing?
