So we need to remove dedication and skill from the points chase now?
I for one, enjoyed watching the points chase last year. I really can't see how the system is broken.

Ya know, it's a funny thing. I don't think that the system is broken, or for that matter needs to be changed. BUT, clearly the old system favored the Divisional points and filled in with National/Divisional points totals. The NEW system totally favors a National/Divisional points total BUT at the same time requires the Racer to race at a minimum number of Divisional races to be able to compete (grade points) at National Events.
IMHO, the NEW system doesn't necessarily allow the "Best Racer" to win.

I don't know that you can build the perfect system. But, I don't think the current one should have any drastic changes.
I would like to see a small bonus for records, class, and qualifying to bring back the performance side of things. If you haven't run your full allowance of Divisionals, are you really serious about chasing points? I sometimes wonder if some of the older crowd have forgotten how they "lived class racing" when they were younger. It seems that it has become just one small part of their lives now. One that they like to complain about constantly.

Why is it that Bowling Green is always the supposed central place to hold something like this? It is no where near the center of the US.
Geographically the best track is Great Bend Kansas. I assume that is why the first Nationals was held there. |

Some people attend divisional races and make a decision to chase points after several races. Of course everyone has aspirations at the beginning of the season. A true championship would be each division sending its champion to a centralized location.
As for older people complaining of how things were, all the younger generation will be doing the same when they reach the same age. Things always change though, and that provides differences of opinions. BUT, don't forget it is NHRA's race, their rules. Your input is appreciated. How many of you still share your National Dragster. Ron Ortiz U/SA my car has a bench seat.

It takes 3 things to be the champion. Great driver. Great car. Enough money to chase the points. All recent champions have had all 3. The system that is in place now seems to work just fine. I dont see a need to change it.

There are many Great Drivers, Many Great Cars,But may not have the financial assets or the privilege of ”TIME” so they will never be world champions that is why the system I suggest will work

I don't have any of those qualifications and definitely don't have the time. With a bit of luck I could contend for a D2 Championship. I dont fit the great driver category and I have a decent car. I have finished top 10 in D2 2 of the last 3 years. Not bad for a 64 year old guy with a home built car.

I can tell you from personal experience the best system was back in 1981 when I finished number 3 in the points behind Mr Jeff Taylor and Ronnie Cardwell .I'm old but we had tio claim all of our races in succession no chosing the best out of 3 National or 8 Divisonal. I'm pretty sure that was Jeffs first National Championship.Back then I was raising my family and had pretty much 2 weeks vacation and was able to accompish that. Fast forward today a working man has pretty much zero chance to attain that feat.I love drag racing and all the wonderful people Pam I have met over the years but that is cruel reality,
