This is what is posted at the track site.

Pit Vehicle Registration: As of Feb 2011, all pit vehicles at Division 5 and Division 4 race tracks will be required to register at time of entry. Registration will cost $10, competitors will fill out an registration form with vehicle information, owner info, as well as authorized personnel who will be operating the vehicle. This pass will be valid and honored at any Division 5 and 4 track and will be a once per year fee/registration.

It's the same here in Division 1, just something else to charge for.

These track owners need to go to Norwalk div. race. The spectators, campers bring in golf carts ,cars, scooters, 4runners etc. I guess Bader would rather have spectators and happy racers than trying to get every last dollar from racers. Having insurance on your pit vehichle should be all that is required.

If there's no registration or check, how do they know if that's the case? How many pit vehicles do you think have insurance? My guess: less than 10%.

Seriously, people will piss and moan about anything. We're talking about a $10/year charge...

Up here,we gat a sticker similar to one you get at a National Park for the summer. It must be dispayed on the pit vehicle. With the insurance, the track will do random checks if you`re using the pit vehicle. If you can`t show proof of insurance, you`re out for the event. It`s less than $100 a year, but after the insurance, the registration fees,NHRA memberships,it starts to add up.

The $10 wouldn't bother me too much. It is the fact that they make you get insurance is what bothers me. I would feel really wierd going into my insurance agent asking for insurance for something that never sees a public road.

There have been some really nasty accidents in the last few years with people zooming around on pit vehicles, kids going all over the place at silly speeds, and whatnot.

A year ago one of our fellow racers was motoring along on a scooter when someone backed out of their pit without looking and he ended up going face first into the pavement. Lost a couple teeth, mangled their face and spent the evening in the ER (amazingly he went into the 3rd round the next day). And much worse has happened.

Insurance seems like a good idea, and if it costs $10/year to administer a program that insures people have it, and that people can be held accountable if stuff happens, that seems OK with me.

People buy ATV and other off-road vehicle insurance all the time: http://www.progressive.com/motorcycl...coverages.aspx

Never seeing a public road just makes it really cheap.

Chris, It's not about the 10 bucks. I wish they would check for ins. at all tracks. I have it and always will, but they don't check that they just want some extra cash. When does it stop. What's bad is some only run that div. a few races.
I guess what I mean is if they take your money make sure everyone has insurance.
