Re: STRANGE 12 bolt housing VS GEARS
If you think you have a problem just measure from the area that the front pinion bearing mounts to the end of the spline.....
Measure the bearing mount diameters of the front and rear pinion bearing.. Does the companion flange fit the new gear set??????????? Just looking at the pix it just appears that difference is the length of the gear teeth on the pinion caused by a ratio change..... Just my 2 cents.... Bob

I spent quality time with mine, doing my first ever ring and pinion swap from scratch, and I recognize that in an instant. I have no idea what the one on the left is.

Re: STRANGE 12 bolt housing VS GEARS
That gear on the left has a smaller rear pinion bearing, it probably is a truck gearset. The 12 bolt truck had a diamond shape cover and a smaller bearing. Looks like the wrong part to me.

Weary of guessing without a part number.

At this point, I would be looking for any numbers on the housing and the original gear set. Is this in the '69 Camaro in your sig? Have you contacted Strange?

Re: STRANGE 12 bolt housing VS GEARS
If it is truck gear rear pinion bearing( next to teeth) is about .125'' smaller and bearing sets about .080'' closer to teeth(pinion is deeper in housing).

Re: STRANGE 12 bolt housing VS GEARS
NEW RICHMOND NUMBER IS 79-0029-1
The gear that came with the housing ( the one without the bearing) is a US GEAR 4.88 Set up and installed by Strange Eng. I have 5 other sets of 12 bolt gears and all of them look the same as the Richmond. None of them will pass through the bearing in the housing.

Re: STRANGE 12 bolt housing VS GEARS
Have you tried looking up the numbers on the US Gear on their website to see which gear set it is?
