Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
I got to use a Buxton valve spring checker, Wow was it nice. A read out in thousands of an inch and lbs of force and a printout of each spring. Put in coil bind clearance and valve lash and it shows installed height. A really nice tool and it?s easy to use.
It?s almost 5:00 am so I better get to work. |

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Taking a break. The block had its final cleaning. Cam bearings are installed. Sound track from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show " is playing, all is good! Solvent tank cleaned and refilled with fresh solvent. Supper tonight at the Fancy Farm picnic, where everything is home made and all proceeds go to the church.
Back to work New cam turns in the bearings, another good day of racing. Last edited by Larry Hill; 08-03-2024 at 05:00 PM. Reason: add stuff |

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
I think now we have a better than a coin flip chance to make Indy. The cam shaft passed my tech check with the new pushrods. New ring compressor worked well the anodized ones stop the aluminum shavings from getting into the engine. Running a little low on Luberplate 105 but we will make it. Crank and Camshaft end play is right in the center of spec.
A big tip of the cap to Militia products timing gear set it made the process of installing center line so much faster and very accurate. Another good day of racing |

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
SOT forgot to mark off stuff that was torqued on my list. Spent most of the morning dissembling only to find out it was torqued to spec and I forgot to check it off. Now I know.
And for my next SOT, drum roll please....................... |

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Get yourself a red marker - when you torque something, mark it.
Takes the remembering out of the equation.

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
I now have my springs assigned. For me it took two sets of springs and a few spring shims to get close to what was the target height. Most of the springs used fell under the bell curve. The PAC Springs micrometer was dead on. Its 20 TPI so it adjust fast. I should start loading real parts in the engine

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
I awakened, you can bet the farm I was not going to use “woke”, and decided to bite the bullet and make custom spring locators, cups out of commercial parts. No shims, I like that
