Building a 1970 Nova to run stock. Looking for help in wheel selection. 8" or 10" wide? What set back?

I have 8 wheels with 5 backspace. I wish I had gotten maybe 5 1/8 backspace, but 5 works OK. Alot of guys use 4.5 backspace with no problem, so the best thing to do would be to borrow a wheel and tire from a friend and see if you need 4.5 or 5.
I measured my section width at 11.3 (275/60R15 BFG drag radials), and they rub just a tad. I might be wrong, but it seems like alot of Stock and Super Stock guys like to run 30x9s. They'd be a tight squeeze on 8 rims, and I don't think they would fit at all if you put them on a 10 wheel. ~Pete 1970 Nova 12.653@105.43

Joe I believe that mine are a 8.5 inch with a 4.5 backspase I can fit the 30 x 9 hoosier radial or the 29.5 x 9 mickey bias ply tire. You need to watch the section width close. You will need to roll the lip on your fenders under. It takes a little checking and adjusting to get things in there but it will fit.
Good luck on your project |
