Default Radial Slick Top End wig-wag Condition

Looking for some help.

We run the M/T 3066R 30 x 9 radial slick on our Camaro.

Car is 3400lbs Tires set to 17.5 psi.

Right around 145 mph the body will wig wag from side to side. Can't feel anything in the steering or chassis. It's all body roll.

Back to back testing today switching to a M/T 28 X 10.5 bias ply corrected the condition.

I really hate to have to go back to the bias tire.

Does any body run these tires at 145-150 mph?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You have too much vehicle weight for that pressure. Go up , in small increments, until it spins. You'll know when it begins to. You may wind up in the 19 lb range, maybe a little more. A lot of stockers run upwards of 20 lbs, regularly.

How many runs on the radials? We changed radials and corrected the problem. In second and third it was hooking and spinning left to right. A two handed deal for sure!

But have done it since day one :-(

yeah you need to go up in pressure my car weights 4080# don't run that fast by no means but had same problem with radials at first really bad when i would lift at finsh always felt like assend wanted to pass front end started with 19# but went up in air and took care of the wig wag i run 25#s of air and its like a caddy nice and smooth

Ever try the Hoosier 30 x 9 radial slick? I run them on my 3500 lb. 10.97 et @ 122 mph car. I run 20-22 psi, and it drives like it is on rails. I swap the tires side, to side every 20 or so passes.

Thanks for all the good info here.

We have absolutely no issues at speeds less than 135.


M/T tech stated it could be the Radial rear vs. Bias fronts that are causing the issue. They suggested going down on the pressure of my front tires. (Currently 40-38 psi). They also suggested looking at their S/R series front radials. When I checked out the specs I found they are only rated for 130 mph.

I?m beginning to think that it?s all sidewall related.

Some of the faster cars (160 mph plus) run the ET Street Radials but a set would be 30 lbs heavier. I don?t think they have issues because of the beefier sidewall in the DOT tire.

I?ll try going up on the pressure but unless the track is optimum it could cause a lot of inconsistencies at launch.
