Re: Race #9 & #10 at Darlington Dragway
GBM Land and Construction Races #9 & #10 Darlington Dragway Recap:
This past weekend we were racing at Darlington Dragway & had beautiful weather both days. This was a rescheduled race & me personally, I think it was a great decision. Thank you to Bear Aiken & his crew at Darlington Dragway for the awesome track conditions! Unfortunately Jeff Miles wasn't able to be there this weekend as he was doing Hurricane cleanup in the Tampa, FL area. Saturday afternoon we had one time run, followed by our Warren Engines Dash for Cash. Chad Wisecarver picked up the first cash of the day collecting the Dash for Cash winnings. He was dialed a 6.07 & ran a 6.0734 at 109.73 mph. We had a total of 5 dead on runs. We had 33 cars on the property & all of them were able to make the 1st round call. Also we had 7 female racers competing with us on Saturday. Frank Beasley received the Victory Lane Golf Carts 1st Round Best Losing Package. He was dialed a 6.23, had a .0442 RT, & ran a 6.2437 @ 108.36 mph. Anyone who knows Frank, is aware that he has struggled with his car over the last year so it was good to have him racing with us this weekend & his car performing well. Curt Smith Jr. lost in R2 but he didn't leave empty-handed. He received a 5 gallon pail of Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO 112+ for his losing efforts. Curt had a .0365 RT & ran a 7.1319 @ 93.13 mph on his 7.11 dial. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate with us to start R3 on Saturday evening to due heavy dew setting on the track so the decision was made to pick up on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Kelsey Alexander, racing with us for the 1st time in 2024, was the lone semi-finalist. She went up against Kevin Locklear. Although Kelsey had a slight advantage at the tree, Kevin took the round win in a double breakout. The finals was Terry Hiatt, driving one of Homer's cars, & Kevin Locklear. Kevin had an .04 advantage on RT & went on to pick up the win for the Saturday race. Kevin's dial was 6.36, he ran a 6.3852 @ 102.76 mph with a .0081 RT. Terry had a .0489 RT, ran a 6.3501 @ 104.38 mph on his predicted 6.35 dial. In addition to Kevin's race winnings, he received another CCRA Eagle trophy, trailer check courtesy of MJ Printing & Graphics, a $100.00 gift certificate to Altronics Inc, a can of #FOGGIT, a certificate for a set of #E3 Ignition spark plugs, $100.00 gift certificate to Crew Chief Pro Software, $100.00 gift certificate to Edelbrock Performance, $100.00 gift certificate to COMP Cams, & a 5 gallon pail of #Fuel Factory F12 racing fuel. Terry received his race winnings, a smaller runner-up trailer check (in which he asked Homer if he could keep it to put beside Tanner's), a $50.00 gift certificate to Portatree Timing Systems, an #E3 Ignition certificate for a set of spark plugs, $50.00 gift certificate to Edelbrock Performance, $50.00 gift certificate to COMP Cams, & a 5 gallon pail of #Fuel Factory F8 racing fuel. Terry's winning didn't stop there though. He received the Dunn Logging Company The Paul Bunyan "Best RT" money for his .0015 RT during R3. Curtis Smith Racing received The Hard Luck Award from McLawhorn Racing for his parts failure which didn't allow him to come back for E3. Kevin Riner took the Wayside Landscapes & Supply Bounty Hunter award for taking out Farmington Dragway Sunday's race winner, Hillarey Marshall in R2. Jake Melton was awarded the Wisecarver Brothers Racing Sportsmanship Award for his willingness to help any fellow racers even when he is having issues of his own. Hillarey Marshall won the Best Winning Package sponsored by Performance Sealing & Striping with his R1 win. She was dialed a 6.30, had a .0158 RT & ran a 6.3022 @ 102.86 mph (.0158 package). Current points leader, Mr. Charlie Wisecarver was all smiles & his family got lots of laughs when he received the Gutters by Design/Worst RT for his .2765 RT during R2 but he did win the round. |

Re: Race #9 & #10 at Darlington Dragway
We were able to start the Sunday race around the close advertised start time even after completing the Saturday race portions earlier that morning. On Sundays our only run before eliminations is the Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash. Madison Wilson was the winner of that were she was dialed a 6.80 & ran a 6.8000 @ 98.30 mph. She received $100.00 cash & 1st round bye eligibility. Unfortunately we had breakage of 3 cars during Dash that we unable to make it for the 1st round call so we had 30 cars make 1st round. Reggie Lytch is his new to him Stock Eliminator Camaro received the Victory Lane Golf Carts 1st Round Best Losing Package. He had a .0174 RT, ran a 6.7221 @ 100.20 mph on his 6.71 dial. Mr. JIm Morgan received the Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants 2nd Round Best Package & got himself a 5 gallon pail of PRO 112+ racing fuel. he was dialed a 6.47, had a .0483 RT, & ran a 6.4785 @ 99.32 mph. Sunday's semi-finalist was Joseph Strickland taking the loss to Don Shuford & Stacie Ridings taking a tough loss to Homer Carty. Unfortunately for Shuford, the finals was over at the hit when he lit the red bulb -.0051 to Homer's .0361 RT. Homer went on to run a 6.2269 @ 100.04 mph on his 6.20 dial. In addition to Homer's race winnings, he received another Eagle trophy, a trailer check, $100.00 gift certificate from Altronics Inc, a can of #FOGGIT, an #E3 Ignition certificate for a set of spark plugs, a 50% off one item from Zamp Racing, $100.00 gift certificate from COMP Cams, $100.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, & a 5 gallon pail of #Fuel Factory F12 racing fuel. Shuford (once again a bridesmaid) received his race winnings, a smaller trailer check, a $50.00 gift certificate from Meziere Enterprises, an #E3 Ignition certificate for a set of spark plugs, $50.00 gift certificate from COMP Cams, $50.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, & a 5 gallon pail of #Fuel Factory F8 racing fuel. Stacie Ridings earned herself the Dunn Logging Company sponsored The Paul Bunyan/Best RT time award for her .0055 RT during R1. Jake Melton had to have his race rig & trailer towed in by fellow racer, Terry Hiatt on Friday evening & then suffered starter troubles on Sunday morning & was unable to make the race call so he was awarded the McLawhorn Racing sponsored Hard Luck award & Terry Hiatt received the Wisecarver Brothers Racing Sportsmanship award. I say it all the time but I honestly feel like we have the best group of racers within our 2 racing associations!!! Frank Beasley got the Wayside Landscapes & Supply Bounty Hunter money for taking out Saturday/Sunday morning race winner Kevin Locklear in R1. Hillarey Marshall once again received the Performance Sealing and Striping Best Winning Package award. She was dialed a 6.32, had a .0248 RT, & ran a 6.3227 @ 104.99 mph. Mr. Ed McLawhorn got the Gutters by Design/Worst RT for his .2323 RT during R1 which resulted in a round loss. Dennis Pope's tech card was pulled at randon on Sunday morning to receive a $35.00 Visa gift card sponsored by Half Moon Marketplace for the "Act of Giving Back".
Our final two races of the 2024 season will be November 23rd & 24th at The Dragway at Coastal Plains Park. We will also have our annual Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving dinner on Saturday (more details to come). I'm sure many of our racers will be competing at the NHRA Southeast Division 2 race this coming weekend at Rockingham Dragway so we'll be pulling for there. See y'all in a few day!!! |
