Ppp shifter clean and relube?

Gday,
After 8 years or so, visibly there?s a bit of a build up of crud on the shifter mechanism
Will give it a clean, what are you guys using to relube it?

Paul ,
maybe try a teflon dry lube spray . I use a CRC Dry Glide from Repco , I use it on my hoists plus heim joints on the caltracs .

I have never cleaned nor relubed the shifters in any of my 3 race cars in the over 30 years I have been racing and everyone has worked flawlessly for thousands of passes.

Still works perfectly, but I can see **** from our perfectly dust free environment 😀👍

dust free ? at willowbank ? hahaha my Plymouth still has dust in it .
doing good . maybe not as good as you @ winters . But getting back in the saddle to be ready for The Bend Grand Final .

Good for you being proactive on possible maintenance issues that can occur in your specific climate conditions!

Some may not understand these circumstances that require some proactive maintenance. We get it & some others don't. Press on as I know you will without blinders on.

You are spot on by cleaning & lubing your shifter!

there are few sportsman racers without the benefit of a full time team/employees that have as good no mind a better preventive maintenance program for their cars than I. My cars show it in their performance, appearance and most important wins!

That said the OP has a door car, not an open cockpit car and if he races in a dust bowl his preventative maintenance should start with the carb, not a component in the interior of the car but hey, some like to make it more difficult than it needs to be.

Hey credit where its due, I enjoy reading your posts, this one also!

I usually get a grin out of them, and you can come up with good info.
I have no problems asking questions if i don't know something, hence this post, plenty i don't know.
Usually when you think you have a good handle on something you realize there can be another angle you haven't looked at and makes you realize you don't know as much as you think!
I do race in a dust bowl most of the time, and maintenance is something in my job i actually have a pretty good handle on.
I always get a grin when i hear from other people what is supposedly in my car or how i do things, they have no idea.
I do appreciate performance , appearance and wins, believe me.
I've won National c/ship, multiple local and regional c/ships.
But i don't go on about it, we are all only as good as our last result!

I can't see how i'm making anything more difficult, i enjoy working on the car as much as i do racing it.

Nothing wrong with cleaning and inspecting any mechanical part on the car. I would typically strip the car to the frame rails every winter, clean, inspect, fix anything not in new condition.

Better than running it for years without looking at anything and then wondering why it won't run or repeat, like some folks.

Paul, appreciate the comments. all I’m saying is there are 100s of other critical parts of the car that require maintenance whether it preventative or replacement due to service life. If you’ve got all those handled then have it with the shifter, me, it’s not a concern. The shifter in my Firebird was just replaced a few months ago after being in service for 20 years. I can’t say if ithe mechanism was cleaned and relubed in the 4 years the previous owner of the car used it but it wasn’t for the 16 years/seasons I and my son used it over thousands of passes. Same thing with the shifter in his dragster. Never been cleaned or relubed since the car was built 10 years ago. Last the shifter in my former Chevelle too was never cleaner or relubed in the 27 years I owned it and the 17 years I raced it. None of my cars have ever broken a trans cable either but I do care spare cables.

That said, your car, your time, your money to do as you wish.
