Re: CCMP Race #3 at Rockingham Dragway
Liberty's Gears Rockingham Dragway Carolina Classic Modified Production Race #3 Results:
We broke another record this past weekend having 7 cars racing on Saturday. THANK YOU to each racer for racing with us on Saturday. Although I didn't get 8 cars liked I had hoped, I think we put on one heck of a show for Rockingham Dragway. For the first time in 2024, Strawberry Dixon & Ricky James came out to race with us. Our 7 racers were Steve Johnson EM, Ricky James DM, Ronnie Yopp DM, Strawberry Dixon BM, Darrell Lail, BM, Robbie Draughon AM, & Gary McKee BM. 6 of the 7 racers made a run in Q1 as Gary McKee had a minor oil leak & was pushed off the starting line. Steve Johnson lead the way running 5.869 at 116.76 mph on his 6.50 index (-0.6231 under), followed by Draughon (-0.5622) & Lail (-0.5416). McKee was able to get his hot rod buttoned up & made a run for Q2. This run also had 6 of our 7 making a run with Draughon having an issue before pulling on the track. Although Johnson slowed on his 2nd run, he was still able to capture his 3rd Hodges Custom Homes Top Qualifier Award for the season. This makes him 3 for 3 (Do it for Dale) & now his has a bullseye on his back for the next race at Farmington Dragway. Anyone that wants to sponsor a Bounty for that race, please get in contact with me!!! After 2 round of qualifying, the sheets are now set with Johnson holding onto the #1 spot, followed by Draughon, Lail, Dixon, Yopp, McKee, & James. The ladder is also set & eliminations are ready to begin. First pair out was Draughon AM versus Yopp DM. Robbie was late at the hit but Yopp handled it to hand at the tree when he turned on the red light. Robbie went a 53605 at 129.76 mph on his 5.90 index. Lail & McKee BM Heads Up was our next pair. On paper, Lail should have been the winner here but we don't race on paper. Gary had the starting line advantage with his .0326 RT to Lail's .1445 & Gary carried it to a round #1 win as Lail had some transmission failures. Gary improved on his qualifying by running a 5.5177 at 125.77 mph on his 6.01 index. The 3rd pair out was James DM versus Dixon BM. Ricky got a huge starting line advantage .0175 to Dixon's .1158 but was unable to hold off the hard charging Dixon, who also improved on his qualifying time running a 5.4928 at 126.37 mph on his 6.01 index. Johnson had a first round bye run. He had a .1149 RT, ran a 5.9038 at 115.95 mph on his 6.50 index. Round #2 pairings are Johnson EM versus McKee BM. Both were tardy at the hit but Steve made his fastest pass of the day running 58642 at 117.00 mph on his 6.50 index (-0.6358). Mckee ran a 5.5745 at 123.97 mph on his 6.01 index (-0.4355). Draughon AM versus Dixon BM was our last pair of round #2. Both of them were almost identical at the hit, Draughon .0354 to Dixon's .0386 but both had issues getting down the track & Draughon managed to get back into it to claim his spot in his first final of the 2024 season. Finals bring us to Steve Johnson EM versus Robbie Draughon AM with Steve having lane choice. Draughon throws his chances away at his 1st ever CCMP win when he turns on the red light -.0314 to Johnson's .1220. Robbie made his best & fastest pass of the day running 5.3197 at 130.25 mph on his 5.90 index (-0.5803) but unfortunately the nasty red bulb bit. Steve ran a 5.9059 at 116.61 mph on his 6.50 index (-0.5941) to claim his 2nd race win of the 2024 season. This would have been one of the best finals ever if both drivers would have left green. Steve also received a $100.00 gift certificate to Altronics Inc, a $50.00 gift certificate to Meziere Enterprises, $100.00 gift certificate to COMP Cams, $100.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, a 5 gallon pail of Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO 116 racing fuel, & a can of FOGGIT. Robbie received a certificate for a set of spark plugs from E3 Ignition, $100.00 gift certificate to Crew Chief Pro Software, a 50% off one item from Zamp Racing, $50.00 gift certificate from COMP Cams, $50.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, & a 5 gallon pail of F25 racing fuel courtesy of Fuel Factory. The Carolina Classic Modified Production signature trophy was once again made by Caleb Beaman, employee of Redline Speed Shop & Robbie Draughon Powertrain Development. Mark Joyce of MJ Custom Printing & Graphics made the trailer checks for both winner & runner-up. We have some time off until our next CCMP race in August at Farmington Dragway but our racers will likely be in attendance at the upcoming Clemmons Concrete Stick Shift Nationals race also being held at Farmington Dragway.
