What size welding cable?
I want to improve my cables. It is about 6 ft from the battery to starter solenoid and about 2 ft from the starter solenoid to the starter. I have some 4 AWG from a previous car.
Is 4 AWG big enough for this or should I go larger? What are your experiences? This is a 12 volt car. thanks in advance! Ray Wish I was with you guys at Cecil!

Re: What size welding cable?
8' of 4ga, decent fine strand welding cable and not auto parts store stuff, will likely be OK. I use 2ga in most everything, rear mount, 13-16', no issues. As long as everything else is in good shape.

Go to windynation.com and use 1.0 gauge welding cable. They can cut to size and install cable ends for you.Ive used their cables for my build and so far i’m very happy with the quality.

Re: What size welding cable?
Only needs to be big enough to spin the starter. Once the engine is running, big cables are dead weight.
Look at what they are using on the truck or car sitting in your driveway. |
