Re: 402 stocker engine
So since you say you have re ringed it couple times, I'm going to assume the pistons and rod bearings are ok, have you had a peek at the main bearings?
If it's smoking it can only be blow by or something with enough friction to get the oil hot enough to smoke,,, There's only a few things that can make heat... And I would think anything hot enough to cause the oil to get that hot it will leave evidence. It's defiantly oil smoke, not steam (cracked block)? Just thinking out loud... |

Re: 402 stocker engine
I would consider changing the Oil to Maxima break in Oil and then put a load on the motor in the car a couple of times, letting it cool down in-between and see if this changes the breather oil smoke condition.

Re: 402 stocker engine
I assume it's an Automatic?
Get the motor up to 120-130 on jack stands. In gear , hold the brake , put it on the Convertor to load the motor maybe 5 6 seconds. 180- 190 temps cool it repete. Or take to the track and make 2 WOT hits. Again, suggest that you use Maxima break in Oil. Where is the timing set at? Locked out distributor advance? I would be very conservative with it. BB 402 Stocker start with 32 33 degrees go from there. |

Re: 402 stocker engine
When you doing all this have a blowby meter hook up to it. When we had our B-Dragster you could spin the starter and if the float moved in the tube there was blowby!

Longer than care to remember. These is one is been the worst. I have had it apart 4 times hone it each time with the same results. The engine seem to leak fairly well 2.5 to 3.7 warm. Ran 10.64 at 128.00 |

Re: 402 stocker engine
Leak down will only tell what?s going on at the top of the cylinder. Another easy test is when doing leak down is rock the piston at TDC let it go to BDC and pull the piston up with leak down tester still attached watch the meter as you pull up to TDC it takes a ratchet with extra long handle.
