Default Buck Kinney, RIP

I just heard that long time Div. 6 Super Stock racer Buck Kinney has passed away. Buck was one of the early drag racers in Western Canada, and was best known for the orange 71 Chevelle convertible that he raced in SS/JA & KA for 40 years, and raced a series of other 396 & 427 Chevys for years before that. He never won a NHRA National event, but had multiple Runner Ups, and was a many time NHRA record holder. Buck finally hung up his helmet about 10 years ago, in his 80s. RIP Buck.

Sad news indeed. Big time name here Div. 6. Remember the Chevelle convertible very well. R.I.P. Buck. Prayers for his family and many friends.

I raced around Buck for a number of years and watched the Chevelle many times. I'll always remember going to him for advice, his eyes would light up and his response would be " give it a try you never know it might be good "RIP Buck.

Buck was an early mentor that really made an impact on me as a young racer. Buck was a patient teacher who was willing to try anything, and wanted to try everything. One of my favorite Buck memories is watching him dump all of his tools out onto the deck of his trailer and then saying "I'm going to use them all anyway. It's easier to see them this way".
Buck Kinney was special.

I know in his shop he had his tools in a wash tub, just dragged it over to what he was working on. In the time I saw it that car never rode in an enclosed trailer, it was always a spectacle on the road. He took to indoor and outdoor car shows, always driving it in and out. Super stock cars sound great indoors !!

Yes, I believe that Buck used the same basic black open trailer and light blue Chevy van for towing the Chevelle for about 30 years, at least. And the tools were always out, as it was not unusual to see Buck try 2 or 3 different torque converters on a weekend. And in his small home garage, he had a rack that much have had at least 50 different cams that he had cycled thru that 402. I remember once I asked him about building a different car, after racing the Chevelle for so many years, and he just smiled, and said, "oh no, I am still finding things to do with this one."

To my knowledge Buck is not included in the Canadian Drag Racing hall of fame. I'm sure all would agree he should be. I know someone that can help make that happen.
