Here's the 1969 Springnationals at Dallas. SUPERSTOCK SS/_ and SS/_A. And then STOCK /S and /SA.

Re: 1969 NHRA Results Analysis
427 Fairlanes for 1967
(That’s not the Mystery but it so easily could be) Basic Info, NHRA Shipping Weights, 427-4v (modern tables, “pretty close” to the old ones) 3280 Fairlane Club 2ds, the lightest one 3320 Fairlane 500 2ds 3400 Fairlane 500 2ht the most common 3688 Fairlane 500 2cv Convertible eg Dick Simon 3772 Fairlane 4d6p Wagon eg Richard Charbonneau From there: 20 lb: add for 8v 40 lb, subtract for race package, glass scoop hood etc Lots of urban legend about what was OFFERED, what was BUILT, what was LEGAL, and how the engines were FACTORED. The latter two even vary by race year. I use FACTORED HP, FHP, for the 1966-71 race years 427 Medium Riser of: 410 427-4v flat hood 420 427-4v scoop hood (near as I can tell this combo was banned circa 1970, then allowed again) 460 427-8v flat hood 470 427-8v scoop hood There is a little slop in these FHP, because things don’t line up exactly between the old and new weight tables. This leads to an ongoing mystery, the Dick Simon car[s]. Simon’s more well known 67 Convertible ran in A/SA=8.00 at 68 US Nationals This fits class with a 427-8v under the hood, W/P=8.00 And then ran in C/SA=9.00 “later” This fits class from 1973 on with a 427-4v, W/P=9.00 But what is the Dick Simon car running at 69 US Nationals, F/SA=10.00? No Ford engine fits that class unless it was a 1-of-none 428CJ in his 67 Fairlane (That was a joke) So here are some F/SA=10.00 combos that fit, but Dick Simon HAD to be running some other car, not his well known 289-2v then 427-8v then 427-4v powered Convertible. Does anybody know what car/engine Dick Simon really ran in F/SA=10.00? Last edited by DeuceCoupe; 04-11-2023 at 08:03 AM. |

Re: 1969 NHRA Results Analysis
Finally, this is a reserve post where I will put tables of RECORDS for that year. Not quite done with those yet but coming.Meanwhile here are a few other links re 1969 Stock & SuperStock:
* 1969 winter pomona ss discussion (mostly Ford People): (681) 427 1966 Fairlane Cam - Page 2 - 332-428 Ford FE Engine Forum https://www.fordfe.com/427-1966-fair...67059-s40.html This says 67-68 but in the video it talks about the 15th US Nationals which is 1969. Also, the sign on the tower matches 1969, not 1968. 1967 & 1968 US Nationals – YouTube And another superb read by Ratpatrol: https://skunkwerkssuperstock.wordpress.com/1969-2/ 1969 Indy discussion here Project - NHRA Stock and S/S results 61-68 - Page 4 - CLASS RACER FORUM http://www.classracer.com/classforum...t=62802&page=4 http://www.classracer.com/classforum...t=62802&page=8 http://www.classracer.com/classforum...=62802&page=11 * 1969 US Nationals Indy - CLASS RACER FORUM http://www.classracer.com/classforum...ad.php?t=30766 * Late 1969 records Tom Kasch 1969 records in Nov. - CLASS RACER FORUM http://www.classracer.com/classforum...ad.php?t=78290 * Last edited by DeuceCoupe; 04-10-2023 at 10:55 PM. |

Quote:
But, no engine offered fits in 1969's F/SA=10.00 in that Fairlane Ragtop. So he must have had a different car running F/SA=10.00. |
