You're going to want one of these.

Any machine shop with a connecting rod cap grinder can trim it to fit your rear end.

Here are some bracing ideas.

The center is cast steel I believe so you can weld on it, though it looks like they used silicon or aluminum bronze rod.

Hey Larry, I got to admit my first car was a 1953 Studebaker. Mine was way short on power. It had that 232 V8 with a 3 speed and o/d. Carter 4 bbl. made a lot noise but went nowhere. Just like yours except it was white.

Here is a link of a parts store that my handle something if you need it. It is located about 15 minutes from me.

Good luck on your project, I'll be looking in on ya from time to time.

Curious. Instead of all that work on an 8.8 " Ford, why not just get a complete 9 inch?

Seems like a lot less effort. Love the car

Loren

My fathers favorite car was a 53 Studebaker roadster. As I recall they did not have a V8. His was a six cylinder, three speed overdrive. Because of the body shape I remember a trip in eastern Oregon where he said we were going nearly 110 MPH. That was about 1958.

The miracle of nylon tires
