Re: 08/06 & 08/07 Kinston Dragstrip Races #8, #9, & #10
We're a week away from the gates opening at KDS Motorsports for CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association visiting for the 2nd time in 2022. Next weekend will be a repeat of the last Farmington Dragway race weekend with there being 2 races done on Saturday, August 6th & one race on Sunday, August 7th. There will be a track hosted test & tune on Friday evening, August 5th from 6:30 p.m.-10 p.m. $25 to test & $15 for crew/spectators on Friday evening.
Saturday, gates will open at 9 a.m. with CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association cars only on the track between 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. H&f performance out of Wilson, NC is the Saturday Race #1 title sponsor with HGR's Truck & Trailer Sales, Inc. being the associate sponsor. Jerry Johnson Motors is the title sponsor for Race #2 on Saturday & Service Department Solutions is the associate sponsor. CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association will get a time run at 11 a.m., followed by the Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash at approximately 11:30 a.m. We are planning to run rounds #1-#4 of race #1 between 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. before KDS Motorsports bracket racers take the track for their time run at 2:30 p.m. We will run in rotation to complete race #1 & then go straight in to race #2. Doyle Evans Realty is Sunday's race title sponsor with HGR's Truck & Trailer Sales, Inc. once again being the associate sponsor. Each business mentioned above has ties to drag racing so please support these businesses when you can! Gates will open at 10 a.m. on Sunday, with a God Speed Ministry Church service performed by Ashley Allen at 11:30 a.m. Cars CAN NOT be cranked on Sunday until 12 noon. CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association cars will only run our normal Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash on Sunday following the KDS Motorsports bracket time run & then we'll go straight into eliminations. Admission is $20.00 per day or $35.00 for a 2 day crew pass. Kids 12 & under get in FREE. To all of our CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association, you did a GREAT job at Farmington Dragway allowing us to complete 2 races in one day so we're asking for you to do the same next weekend at KDS Motorsports. Tracks doesn't have to allow us to do this but KDS Motorsports is bringing staff in early on Saturday to get us going early so please come to the lanes when called & tell the KDS Motorsports staff "Thank You" if you get the opportunity!!! We look forward to seeing everyone next weekend! |

Re: 08/06 & 08/07 Kinston Dragstrip Races #8, #9, & #10
We did it AGAIN but this time we also got Sunday's race done too!!! 3 CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association races were completed in 2 days this past weekend at KDS Motorsports. On behalf of CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association racers & officials, we owe a BIG THANK YOU to the staff of KDS Motorsports. Not only did they allow us to start our race early on Saturday, they had phenomenal race track conditions. At 2:36 p.m. on Saturday, track temperature was 143*.
KDS Motorsports Race #9, #8, & #10 Results: Just like we'd done at each CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association race in 2022, there was 2 raffles done Saturday morning with each winner receiving $200.00 of their entry fee back for only a $10 each chance. Monnie Morris & Howie Adams were the winners of those 2 raffles. Thanks to each racer for your participation in those this year as they seem to be a big hit! Greg Rowe, Mr. Dash for Cash at KDS Motorsports, was the winner of the Saturday Race #1 Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash in his Pontiac Firebird. Rowe received $100.00 & eligibility for the 1st round bye run for his 6.780 on 6.78 dial-in. 33 cars made the 1st round call for this race. Korey Alexander in his stick-shifted Chevrolet Camaro took the Victory Lane Golf Carts 1st Round Best Losing Package. Mr. Mullet had a .045 RT, dialed 7.18 & ran dead on his dial with a 1 at 93.71 mph for the loss. Ray Bunton got himself 5 gallons of Renegade PRO 112+ racing fuel sponsored by Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants/Ford's Fuel and Propane for his 2nd Round Best Losing Package. Ray, in his Chevy Camaro, was dialed a 7.39, had a .037 RT, & ran a 7.410 @ 89.38 mph. Dewitt Pope was our lone semi-finalist as he lost to the event winner. Timothy Fletcher found himself in another CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association final round appearance at KDS Motorsports but this time he was up against Scott Tilley. Tilley had motor issues earlier in the season & this was his first race back with us. Unfortunately in the finals, Tilley was mathematically ineligible for the win when Fletcher laid down a .011 total package. Tim was dialed on his trusty 7.03 dial, had a .006 RT, & ran 7.035 at 91.08 mph. Scott was .033 on the tree, was dialed a 7.40, & broke up running 7.389 at 89.91 mph. Timothy also received the Auto Plus Service Center Paul Bunyan Award (Best Reaction Time) for his .002 in Round 2 of competition. John Lattimore lost a battery after pairings in the staging lanes down to 9 cars & was awarded the Hard Luck Award sponsored by McLawhorn Racing. For the Sunday make-up from Farmington Dragway a few weeks ago, our racers continued to battle it out at KDS Motorsports for Race #2 of 2 for Saturday. Homer Carty had won the Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash on the regular scheduled Sunday race at Farmington Dragway on 07/17/22. Homer was the last car down the track & made it all worth it in the end. He had a .0176 RT, dialed a 6.22, & went dead on 6.2206 at 110.62 mph & pick up a crisp $100 & 1st Round Bye eligibility. We lost 2 racers from our 1st race so we started first round with 31 cars. Timothy Fletcher had a bulleye on his back from his win earlier & came up short for race #1 round 1. He didn't leave empty handed from this race though as he was awarded the Victory Lane Golf Carts 1st Round Best Losing Package. He was once again dialed on a 7.03, had a .039 RT, & broke out running 7.020 at 91.45 mph. He said he would gladly take some of Eddie Jr. money smiling for the picture! Dewitt Pope, 1st race semi-finalist, lost in Round #2 of the 2nd race. He was awarded 5 gallons of Renegade PRO 112+ racing fuel sponsored by Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants/Ford's Fuel and Propane for the 2nd Round Best Losing Package. Pope was dialed a 7.23, had a .028 RT, & ran a 7.257 at 92.69 mph for the dreaded "L". He also was smiling for the picture as he said he needed fuel to race on Sunday. We had a very unique finals & semi-finals for Race #2 of Saturday. Once all 4 cars we in the staging lanes, I noticed something that you don't always see in the later rounds so I had to get a little noisy with those 4. As you see a shirt line called "Old Guys Rule", this was the case for this race. We had a 62, 63, 72, & 73 year old racer as our final 4. Ray Bunton, 62 y/o went up against Doug Hobgood, 72 y/o in the first semi. Both drivers were .047 red but Ray was the first driver to turn on the dreaded red bulb so that carried Mr. Doug Hobgood to his first CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association finals of the year. In the next pairings, it was 63 y/o Doyle Evans, picking the wrong time to take a nap on the starting line against 73 y/o Mike Moller finding himself in his 3rd CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association final round appearance of the 2022 season. Mike Moller left a tick too early in the finals with his .002 red RT handing the win over to Mr. Doug Hobgood. Doug was somewhat of a sitting duck in the finals as his air bottle was empty but all of that didn't matter once Moller left early. To add a little fuel to the fire, Mike went a 8.595 on his 8.59 dial while Hobgood saw his red bulb & had a .253 RT and ran a 7.656 at 75.45 mph on his 5.99 dial. If only we had our ET slips before the round, we could win every day. As Mr. Doug said, he had lots of luck on his side today! Mike Moller also was the winner of the Auto Plus Service Center Paul Bunyan Award for his .001 RT in Round 2 of eliminations. Last edited by Tabitha Draughon; 08-09-2022 at 02:52 PM. |

Re: 08/06 & 08/07 Kinston Dragstrip Races #8, #9, & #10
After some rest from the heat of Sunday, our racers were ready to do battle once again on Sunday. It's been awhile since we've completed a race on Sunday so everyone was itching to get it in the books. We started the day off wishing Tim & Sheila Sloan a Happy 46th Anniversary! Greg Rowe was once again the Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash winner. Y'all should be seeing a pattern by now! He had a .021 RT, dialed a 6.78 & ran a 6.782 at 98.46 mph. Dan Fletcher was up very early (6:45ish a.m.) on Sunday morning replacing the transmission in his ATI Performance Products sponsored Chevrolet Camaro so he could make it back for Sunday's action. He actually talked Saturday evening about kicking son, Timothy, out of his ATI Performance Products sponsored Chevrolet Camaro that he drove to high school to be able to compete on Sunday. We had 32 cars make the first round call. Tim Sloan didn't get the win on his anniversary but he did get a little cash to give to Sheila as he won the Victory Lane Golf Carts 1st Round Best Losing Package. He was .002 on the tree, then broke out running a 6.074 at 112.72 mph on his 6.08 dial. Timothy Fletcher got the Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants/Ford's Fuel and Propane sponsored 2nd Round Best Losing Package & receiving 5 gallons of Renegade PRO 112+ racing fuel. Tim dialed a 7.02 dial, was .002 on the tree (as well as his opponent Lee Truell), and broke out running 7.001 at 93.12 mph. Once Dan found out both were .002 on the tree, he told Timothy, "damn you really suck" 😂. Brent Pozzi staged up against Lee Truell in the first semi-finals. Lee throwed down a .003 total package against Brent ending his hopes of reaching the finals. Brent was .043, dialed 6.72, and ran 6.705 at 97.27 mph. In the second semi's, Steve Lucas left .020 too early handing the win over to Homer Carty. Homer was ready for battle though as he laid down a .007 total package. We all knew the finals were going to end up good because both Truell & Carty have been struggling this season & both were due for a victory. Crayden Waters & Tabitha had been discussing it all day in the tower. Lee had been deadly on the tree all 4 rounds prior to the finals but chose the wrong time to be late on the tree against Homer. Homer finally got the monkey off his back & found himself back in the Winner's Circle. Homer had a .017 RT, dialed a 6.06, and ran a 6.106 at 108.64 mph for the win. Lee on the other hand was .109 on the tree, dialed a 6.16, and ran a 6.138 at 111.33 mph. Homer had the comment in the lanes after his win that he was beginning to think it wasn't ever going to happen again. Steve Lucas won the Paul Bunyan Award sponsored by Auto Plus Service Center for his .001 RT during 3rd round eliminations. Hillarey Sloan Marshall was the recipient of The Hard Luck Award sponsored by McLawhorn Racing as her 24 year old transmission finally let go turning off the end of the track after her 2nd round win & she wasn't able to make the 3rd round call.
CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association is off until November & that will be our remaining 2 events for the 2022 season. In the off time, we hope to see our racers competing at the upcoming NHRA Southeast Division 2 race at GALOT Motorsports Park, NHRA national events at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, Maple Grove Raceway, & zMAX DRAGWAY, as well as the NHRA Northeast Division race at Virginia Motorsports Park. |
