Re: Fuel tank choice and size for a stocker
Just because it is a AN10 fitting on the tank outlet. Make sure the hole in the fitting is the correct ID size for what ever size the AN fitting is advertised. I had to resize mine.
If you can put your car on a set of scales and move 25 to 30 lbs around to help the balance of the car with the simulated weight of fuel and fuel cell. I use a five gallon metal tank with foam in it. |

Also put weight in the drivers seat equal to your weight.

I like the 2.5 gallon ones on Ebay, they have 2 -10 fittings, a return, and a rollover valve. you can get them with and without foam. I know the foam can come apart from certain fuel, I just feel with a -10 return on my car, the foam will de aerate the fuel.

If your car is close on weight use a small cell. I have a 3 gallon cell in my car and usually run 2 gallons in it. I can get real close to minimum weight with a gallon. I have a Jaz plastic cell. No foam. No sense carrying more fuel than needed.

I put a 5 gallon cell in my car 1969 Chevy Nova body just at the time NHRA allowed fuel cells in Stockers. Good thing at the time my second stock gas tank rusted out. Also, good idea to leave the foam out, the foam came apart in my cell. Just recently a circle racer that I do work for had a flooding problem with his Q-Jet equipped Bomber car, guess what was in his fuel bowl, besides fuel ............ The smaller cells don't splash the fuel around like an OEM size tank does, besides being safer, and I can make 3 runs safely without filling up after each run. Just my Two Cents from my little corner in the world. Respectfully, Henry Kunz 1534 H/SA |
