3rd gen Camaro/Firebird ft coil spring tool
Racers, I have the conventional compressor with 4 "fingers" that pull the spring together using a long thread rod. The puller is very old [like me a many of my tools] and I am beginning to fear its failure.
I see talk about an OTC tool that has two disks that pulls the spring together. Does anyone use that tool. Or other tools?

Yes the OTC one works great, have no fear when using it laying under a car. It doesnt work in every application, but is great when it does. On a side note working on a 74 GTO it wouldnt work used the kind you are taking about but with only 2 hooks and went through shock hole on frame, some one shared trick of putting heater hose on the coil spring to keep hooks from coming off worked well. I think this tip came from Marty.

The OTC tool is the one that Randy Manns suggested for my new springs. They are not cheap, but the safest spring compressor I have ever used. It was money well spent.

I have a Snap-On which is a Branick. It has 2 hooks and a slip in fork for the bottom. I've used it on my 3rd gen with Moroso trick springs.
This is the style I have https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XQVWMN6...=1622175908865 Last edited by Eman; 05-28-2021 at 12:25 AM. |
