Thanks Eddie for the info. My kids live in Boise, Idaho so the trip is just about 500 miles. I would have to stop and re-charge somewhere along the way - not practical. I assume the re-charge would take a few hours. I'll stick to a gas vehicle for now, thank you.

Annie had her Tesla at the Bracket Finals last Fall. 500 miles from Seattle/Tacoma to Firebird in Idaho. Desolate country for an EV. I didn't see her rig but I doubt she drove it. Al Young did (Big *** Plymouth).


EDIT: Pacific has had charging stations in the pits for around three years now and hosts an EV race (Silent Thunder). Do any of your home tracks have charging stations?
Electric racers seem to be a thing up and out here in tne NorthWest. The previously mentioned Annie and Her Tesla are a pain for the bracket racers and Steve Huff has the 200mph mark in an electric dragster. Below is a link for an article on him with specs and a video.

My dad is rolling over in his grave. He worked at the GM plant in Flint, MI for 24 years before Jimmy Carter destroyed the auto industry. I’m fortunate that I was born in the 60’s. The future of the automobile sucks.

You individuals that live in 70 degree temps year round need to come to South Dakota and make a customer trip of 300 miles in minus 10 degree temps with your lectric vehicle and we will see how far you get. Your heater will drain your battery/batteries in the first hour.

But, I will follow you with my trusty diesel and have my tow rope available to pull you to the next charging station, which is probably Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Aberdeen, maybe Mitchell. Dress warm!

You can keep you lectric vehicle. Thank you very much!!

Ahhhhh.... Not so 'fast' (pun intended)...

You have to remember the law of conservation of energy.
An 80% charge in 5 minutes of a 75 kWh battery (regardless of battery type or chemistry), would require a 720 kw charger. At residential 240Volt that is 3,000 amps.
Further down the article it mentions a 10-minute version with a 400kW charger.. That's 1,667 amps.
Anybody on here have 1,700 amp service at their house?

Trust me I'm all for more electric cars being sold (I'm the plant manager of a coal-fired power plant), but the misinformation being thrown out there about battery life, charging times and the practicality of a nationwide charging system in just a few years is abject nonsense.

Personally, I would indeed like to get one, then I can put a bumper sticker on the back that says "this car is coal powered"

As far as a time frame though, they're probably just as far off as the 50 MPG carburetor.
