Try checking out Marinas. Mercury Marine and others used probably millions of them in boats of all kinds. They used the 153 as the base engine and even made a 181 with a really trick cylinder head!

Those 153's, later to become 181's also came in fork lift trucks. Hyster and Yale used that 153 as their standard engine and the 181 was the upgrade. During the 2000's they were used for several years. Most were converted to propane, but its the same engine.

The 3.0 Liter 181 in Mercury or OMC boats drives combos
was rated 130 to 140 HP. Very Stout Engine for it's day!

Those engines were used in generators along with many other applications....
Heco en Mexico cast into many parts on them.... They were made decades after the original engines from the early 1960's....

Beware the 3.7 Mercruiser Four banger.
There is no automotive bellhousing that will fit it! it is a weird engine that takes a 460 ford head.

Or I guess I could learn to pour bearings and bop along with the original 35HP plant. Wooden wheels! May run those on my AH car. LOL

Re: WTB a 153 Chevy 4 banger
When I was a kid in the 1950's I helped my uncle rebuild one of those poured babbitt rod bearing engines while in the truck. He cleaned most of the babbit out and used a leather strap to make rod bearings. It worked. I can not remember how long it lasted, however it did last the weekend we used the truck to haul cotton to the gin.
