Re: HP Tuners help at Division 4 race
HP Tuners simply lets you plug a laptop into the OBD2 connector on all cars/trucks since 2001 (or whenever it was mandated by the EPA).
I hear ya OP, trying to do it cheaply. And the stock ECM will do what you want it to do, once you learn how to use the tuning tools. Is this a drive by wire setup? If you were around here I would dive-in and help, I should learn HP Tuners and EFI Live sometime for those that want to keep all the factory stuff there. I have been doing EFI since 1986, have worked with plenty of systems, but learned the easiest way to do it was to use Aftermarket, but yes, it does add a lot to the cost! HP Tuners can also do pretty good datalogging. If you PM me an email address I can give it to a friend of mine that has been using HP Tuners on his car, maybe he can help you. He learned the HARD WAY that when the engine was cold the transmission pressure was kept low and fried his trans........... |

I had never heard of anyone using it and was just curious. I know it is just a way of tuning the factory ECU but I wasn't sure.

Good job so far...Now if you could get that thing to 60', you'd be safely under.
Impressive little package.

Re: HP Tuners help at Division 4 race
How's this for a wing and a prayer? The cooling fan on this car isn't working at all but have managed to keep it around 140-150 degrees on each run by either pushing it in the lanes or goosing the car up to 15 mph (the pit speed limit) and coasting for a few hundred feet. I'm now .11 over the index after pulling the down-pipe just before the last run, picking up .18 from my prior run. First round I'm playing it like a heads up run and taking out a quart of oil.
Hopefully I can find a local tuner by Tuesday so I can test before the Dallas double.

Re: HP Tuners help at Division 4 race
Mike,
This may not be a great idea, but it's an idea!! Since you have the software and hardware to connect to your car, there are people that can remote desktop into your computer and make adjustments. Have you searched for anyone that is familiar with HP Tuner software that offers remote tuning? All that you need is software like Team Viewer, and a strong stable internet connection for your laptop. About all someone can do this way, is adjust rev limiters and add or remove fuel based on trial and error with you making passes and relaying information back to them. It may not be ideal, but it may unlock performance on your car. Good Luck Sean
