Re: SBC Oiling
I just installed a new set of steel caps(replaced the burned up set) and line bored the block as well as going another .010 oversize to rid the cylinder walls of scratches. Someone tried to use the newest speed trick of leaving that plug out. I think he broke the cam in at the shop and then hot lapped. It ran the heat race and it didn't make the full 25 laps of the main. Man, the filter was real clean when I cut it open.

Also rebuilt an old 283 from back in the early 60 and back then the oil filter was an option the engine had over 60000 miles on it but the crank was not as bad as I thought it would be. I did get rid of the big welch plug the covered where the filter went on and put a plugged oil filter adapter on. How many people say you will not have oil pressure if you leave that plug out, LOL |

Re: SBC Oiling
I have a lot of experience with this........do NOT use a high volume oil pump.....high pressure yes. Restrict top end as much as practical.

Re: SBC Oiling
My experience, I worked for a engine shop that did nascar oil pan study for chevrolet , for GM,,,, the best oilpan is NO oilpan,,, anything scraper wise and or windage tray wise was ALWAYS worse your better off figuring out how much oil you can get away with,,, out of the pan. period

Re: SBC Oiling
Stock Eliminator engines have certain limitations as to how far away you can keep the oil. I don't know about NASCAR.
