Indeed. He won it with a string of 16.20s. Eugene Chiasson was runner up in a Y/SA Chevelle wagon.

Back around 30+ years ago there was a Corvair that ran IHRA Super Stock. It ran in the SS production class. If memory is correct it ran in K or L production. These classes have been out of the rule books for a couple of decades now, the slowest IHRA production class is now J. If anyone has a IHRA book from the late 70's or early 80's give us the info on the class. The best I can remember the Corvair was from up north and would come to the Bristol, Rockingham, and Darlington races. It ran tiny tires on the rear, I guess to get the ratio lower, it also got some wicked head starts lol. Don Jackson

Purchased that 67 Corvair 500 from the previous owner Who bought it from Roger) who was busted with nitrous in it at Brainerd. I ran the car for a few years (no NO2), it ran a couple under the index, then later put it back to a street car. The 110 hp had potential, but the weak point of inner axle breakage was frustrating. A unusual combo for sure, fun to drive and could do a clutch is less than 30 Min!
And we wondered why those Corvairs we're so fast. The bad deal was Thorstad was the Chairman of the United Stockers Assoc.

Clarification: the individual who was busted with nitrous in the Corvair had Roger Wilhelmys old car not Dan Thorstads. I was a member of USA way back when and it was a great Association to be part of.
