Question Very basic questions

I am new to this forum so I will ask some very basic questions first.

Q1.) Who began the Super Street (10.90) class, the IHRA or the NHRA ?

Q2.) What year did Super Street begin?

Q3.) Was there ever an 11.90 class?

I believe one of big US sanctioning bodies (IHRA perhaps?) ran such a class in the past

Regards from OzzyMike in Australia

Well Mike, I don't remember the exact date but I raced a 10.90 class at an AHRA race in the early 1980's . I recall that when funny car racer Billy Meyer briefly owned the IHRA , he had a number of 90's classes and I think he briefly had an 11.90 class. I also recall when bracket racing was once based upon several brackets which had a fixed handicap versus a dial your own handicap. For example bracket one was from 10.50-11.50, bracket two was 11.50 -12.50...,..as I recall they had about six different brackets. The format is long gone but the name remains.

Maple Grove Dragway had both 10.90 and 8.90 classes as part of its Sportsman Money trail as early as '82,or '83 before they became official NHRA classes.
At one point they ran an 11.90 Jr Gas class.

Englishtown also ran some .90 class races going back to about 1983- $1000 to win in each category.

I ran S/ST at one early race and deep staging was allowed and it was run on a .400 tree. 1983 would be my guess as to when that was.

The following year deep staging was no longer allowed. I was R/up at one race to Jim Harrington.....The race paid $1000 to win and $400 R/Up and they ran those races 3 times that year....Lots of cars in every category....
