I was at the 72 Spring Nats when Mr. kronnenbitter was runner up toBobby Warren. The Big old Chevy was a huge fan favorite.Nobdy left the stands then when Stockers came up,and the big head start he got really got the fans attention. It didnt hurt that he was a local guy either.

Lyn, I was there too! If I remember correctly, Kronnenbitter had feeler gauge strips at each corner of the carb spacing it up from the manifold. I heard him speaking to somebody else who was helping him work on the car that they may have to add "another .005" and two more jet sizes" for the final. I assumed he was talking about adding more space under the carb.

Dwight,

Do you remember Dwight Cox's T/S '60 chevy 4 dr?

Looking at the one above made me remember it.

Ran better after it was painted, still broke a 3spd every week.

Did they even use a base gasket?

Remember how you'd "clip" the power valve spring so she'd idle with the big cam. Well with the old two-bbls., you'd leave the power valve spring alone so she'd kinda idle with all the air leaks.

Two gaskets Lyn. Feeler gauges in the middle.

Things haven't improved all that much on teching vac leaks. I know of several smaller carbed cars that have very loose carbs.

That would be considered a very minor infraction these days

Yes. Cox was too cheap to buy the Lenco synchronizer drum and any of Alex Jarrel's parts that helped the old 3speeds live. He bought my 3spd parts but it was at the end of the season and they built the '66 for the next year.

Over the years, I've tried "leaker" tricks on some of my stuff but it always made the car so nasty to drive and so difficult to make it repeat that I just gave up. I never found enough in it to make it worth my while.
In this day and age, my time would probably be better spent petitioning the NHRA to just let me use the "bus" carburetor and the 11-1 "high altitude commercial" pistons.

But, Billy, the AMC guys did that and you didn't like it! Just a little prejudice there?
