Billy, I agree us old F***ts could manage one of these cars and still have a good time driving. Often think about one of my most successful cars which was a 69 chevelle wagon which was a week end winner locally. Easy driving. LOW maintanence.but Heavy to haul around. Have a great Christmas Billy. I was offered a 76 Caprice 2 dr with 4000, original miles. Any good options for this one?

Jack, you've known me since I was a kid. Have you ever known me to build a combination that was GOOD?

Wow Jack, maybe you should lay off the egg nog.....................I NEVER mentioned anything about Billy or anyone else having a "bad" combo. Your words, not mine. I applaud Vic and Billy for having the balls to build a car on the cheap. When they win the final on Sunday, they get the same purse and trophy that the factory car would receive. |

I wonder when Hp will be dropped as the standard. Seems the way the factors sit and the very slow adjustments and next years bogus hps it keeps hurting everyone but those with the money to move around cars or give up if disgusted with the deal.

We parted out a '78 Grand Marquis back in the early 90s, I told dad to hang on to the motor until we could determine if it was worth anything, found out it was a junk combo for GT classes, so we threw it all away. Heard the heads were "unworkable" and shortblock assy was way too heavy. Even the local marina saw no boat anchor value in them. Please tell me they're still not worth anything.

The 78 is rated @ 320 & has a full point less compression. I would favor the 74. Again, Vic is probably the only one actually building one of these boats. I think what started this thread was the recent HP adjustments from NHRA, They dropped 10 off the 77/78 in stock AND the GT version of the motor. Somebody is running one in SS/GT. ?????
Ford 460 197-202 330 320 77-78 SS/GT This thread changed my mind about having my tired 74 hauled off.

Maybe a 4bbl SBC Stocker engine with the hp rating beat to death, that a guy would have to spend 30 Grand on to be a second under?
