Friends and Racers on Veterans Day
FRIENDS AND FAMILY ON VETERANS DAY*********
Many of you may not know that when a veteran is admitted into a VA Hospital comfort items such as toothpaste, tooth brush , shampoo, deodorant, razors and shaving cream, and other comfort items are NOT supplied by the government. Many veterans are long term patients with no family members, some our drug and alcohol patients that are homeless and suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other mental illness. I ask this holiday season that you might find it in your heart to donate to your local American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Vets. Public school classes, private schools, Sunday school classes, youth groups and other organizations could make this their special project. These veteran organizations also send packages to the soldiers overseas with comfort items and treats. Perhaps you could donate to defray the cost of postage to send these packages. These men and women bravely defended this country and many now need our help. PLEASE DON"T JUST REMEMBER THEM ON VETERANS DAY! There are many ways you can become involved. Thank you! |

I did not know that Wendy! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It truly is a shame that politicians get paid so much but can't fund tooth paste for the guys and gals in their hospitals! Maybe a few less golf games would be in order? Jim

Re: Friends and Racers on Veterans Day
Jim, I volunteer at our local VA hospital in Butler, Pa. I distribute these items to our veterans along with socks, underwear, t-shirts and any other clothing they may need. The funding for these items come from the VFW posts and auxiliaries in my District 25. Sometimes it is a real struggle to stretch our dollars to provide these items. I contact businesses and large corporations, schools , churches for help and very rarely am I refused the help I need. We also make contributions to Fisher House in Pittsburgh which provides free rooms to families of veterans that have been admitted to a VA. facility in the Pittsburgh area. My auxiliary has participate in cooking a meal for those staying at Fisher House.
We try very hard to acquire anything the veterans may need. It is a very rewarding experience serving those that have served me. The veterans and their families are so thankful for any kindness shown to them and lots of times express their gratitude through tears. I love my veterans and am thankful for their service to our country. Sorry, but I am passionate about serving our veterans. |

God bless you Wendy for your commitment to the veterans. It is a crying shame that this country of ours does not take better care of the veterans in need. Just another poor choice by our leaders

X2. Without trying to sound political, what has happened to our country. These men and women serve our country proudly and then can't get the help they need. Or get very little help because of funding. Maybe the politicians should give until it hurts.

Thanks Wendy for what you do. I will make it a point to purchase for our Vets and visit the VFW with these items. |
