Re: Water Seepage ????
better drainage. I believe one track dug trenchs parallel to the track with drains in them. The idea was to allow all the water under the track area a place to be drained out.
I remember Atlanta when the water vapor from the tires was visible but THEY are down hill from a large area which can drain TO the track. |

Re: Water Seepage ????
In the 1980's I worked at Coastal Plains Dragway in Jacksonville NC and we had this same problem.
One of the racers was a well driller by trade and told the track owner that the problem was a pool of water under the track and after a heavy rain it would expand and force water up through the cracks in the track. The well driller said to dig a couple of holes next to the wall where the seepage was occuring and it would alleviate the pressure. My brother and I were given shovels and asked to start digging. We dug a hole that went about 6 feet down, and 6 feet wide and indeed it alleviated the pressure and the seepage stopped. The hole is still there today and to the best of my knowledge the seepage issue is a thing of the past. We dug while cars were going by at about the 120' mark. We were kids and thought it was cool, lol.

Re: Water Seepage ????
Epping had the problem last wknd (Sat, Oct 2nd). They finally had to cancel all race activities for the day at 2:30 PM. By Sunday morning, Oct. 3, the seepage had stopped and they were golden for Sunday's racing. Epping will be tearing up their track at season's end for a complete re-worked drainage system and supposedly a totally concrete 1320 feet of new race surface for the switchover from IHRA to NHRA along w/other mandated changes from Glendora.....A already good hooking/fast track here in Div. 1 will be getting even better...... Get ready for the "NEW" New England Dragway.....WJ
