Travel Trailer Owners
Travel trailer Owners, let me hear from you.
I am in the market for a travel trailer and it will be good to hear about your experience. I “think” about a 30 foot trailer will fill my need. I need room for two adults and my tow truck is a 2006 GMC 2500HD DuraMax. The truck is equipped with a goose neck ball and of course, a bumper pull hitch. My race trailer is a 40 foot goose so I know the GMC is completely adequate for a 30 or so foot travel trailer. The usage will be weekend runs and a place for the Grandchildren to play when the trailer is parked at home. Let me hear from some travel trailer owners about brands, equipment, etc. Thanks

Re: Travel Trailer Owners
Larry,
I just recently sold the 2004 Fleetwood Terry 26 ft TT I had for 5 years. Same as a car trailer service the bearings/brakes once a year and keep the tires covered when it's parked at home and watch the tire pressure, don't tow it with low pressure in the tires, causes them to go BOOM!!. What I did find out when I sold it is since Fleetwood no longer manufactures travel trailers the banks will not issue loans on them, only the more expensive sources of financing are available. I know that my credit union had stopped making loans on any type of RV, boat, etc. Only auto/truck loans and personal loans.

Re: Travel Trailer Owners
I dont have any details but a buddy of mine hauled hundreds maybe thousands of FEMA trailers to Katrina victims down south. I was talking to him last week and from what he was telling me all of those trailers are now being put up for sale by FEMA. Some of them are likely to be trashed now and not worth owning. But when he was towing them down he and his drivers used to stop here to fuel up and get some rest so I saw a bunch of them and they were not too bad of a unit back then. I bet if they sell them one by one and not in big lots of 50 you could find a good one at a good price. Just a thought that might be worth looking into if you are in the market for a used travel trailer.

Based on my experience and since you already have a gooseneck I'd spring for a Fifth Wheel, Carriage being an outstanding brand with unmatched warranty. Several advantages of 5th wheel over a travel trailer, with a good pin box you have a better ride and the extra amount of space/storage is remarkable.

Re: Travel Trailer Owners
5th wheel is the way to go. as far as brand, i personally like the jayco. make sure you get one with a slide out, alot more room when out. as far as interior set up, with a 5th wheel, bed will always be in front, i would make sure to get one with the bathroom all the way in the back, but with a slide i think that goes without saying. just remember, SLIDE OUT! length wise, go with as long as your truck can handle. if you tow a 40 foot enclosed, go with a 5th wheel longer than 30 but no more than 40. trust me, the more room you have, the happier you'll be.

Re: Travel Trailer Owners
Larry,
My inlaws have a 28' tag with a slide out that has VERY LOW use. They bought it decked it out and take care of it they just don't have time now and they want to sell it. We have gone camping with them a couple times and it is very comfortable. The slide out is great. Contact me if you want and I will get you incontact with them. Located in North Florida.
