Default Overheard in parking lot @ Pomona

Jared & I are spectating, have no pit parking pass so had to park in the general parking area. As we are walking, a man was unloading his family from the car. He asks the parking attendant if the cars are running yet. The parking attendant states "just the little guys" (no one is running, it's raining). So the man asks, "when do the big guys run? In reply, the parking attendant said "not for a few hours, they like a dry track". You learn something new every day! lol

Maybe this is a comment on where NHRA is today. If it weren't for the traveling "CIRCUS" how many people would actually come to these events??? The coverage is all about the PRO cars, and the sportsman cars get very little exposure. Many of the fans that come to National events don't even understand the handicap system of sportsman racing. They just want to see 2 cars run side by side, first one there wins. Compared to when the PROS run the stands are relatively empty when Stock, Super Stock and the other "little guy" classes run. By the way, I love to watch the sportsman cars way more than the PROS. Just my 2 cents, but I don't see it changing without more education for the fans.

P.S. Good luck to all this weekend, might be a long one. For the sportsman racer at least.

I use to work the information booth back before NHRA decided they didn't want to give us free tickets, no seat just a ticket to get in, and enjoyed explaining to people who didn't have a clue to what was going on. The 3 most asked questions on Sunday were, what time does the beer stand open, where is the ATM and can we get into the pits to see the race cars. It was even more fun when it was raining like it is today. They would ask what time do they start running? I would hold my hand out from under the EZ Up and say as soon as this quits. Had a lot of fun doing that.

You won't overhear the most highly evolved forms of articulate humanity in that parking lot,Julie, especially by midafternoon on Sunday! Nice seeing you again this weekend!

I overheard a really good conversation of a fan with himself on late Friday afternoon in the Sportsman Pit Area at Pomona.
I was walking the wife's dog along the fence with the general parking lot and a fan who had had a little to much to drink of adult beverages was stumbling along the fence looking for a way to get out to the parking lot.
He would look up and down the fence line then ask "Where the H---- is the Gate?" then walk one direction a few steps then look back ask the same question and walk the other direction.
I just told him to follow the fence to the end and he would find a gate.
He thanked me and stumbled off toward the gate at the end of the track.
I just hope he did not try to drive away once in the parking lot. There was no way he could manage that.
Where is security when you need them?
Sort of funny but not really either...

Made my trip on my motorcycle from Vegas to Pomona and I stopped at a gas station in Hesperia CA and the kids asked about the bike and where I was going. Told them to the World Finals and they wanted to know what kind of racing it was and what town. Half hour from track and they knew nothing about the races. Good advertising NHRA to the young ones.
Also I was so bummed out about the crappy weather and didnt want to spend the money to watch half of a race and left town to beat the weather. Thanks for the Shilo Inn tip the place was very nice and friendly.
