What a great walk back down memory lane. Didn't have many wins back then, but the memories are still great!!!

Yes, I ran in the 60's, but it was a Ford in C Modified Stock... The years sure do change things, don't they? Go figure...

we went to the 62 nats to watch.we needed a few parts for the car we were driving and went to blank chevrolet down from the track to buy them.turns out all the top chevy guys were there working on their cars.
tom strum
dave striclker dyno man in his nalley car along with platt
hadyen
all of them were there
we conned our way in the shop and ended up helping don install some new traction bars on his car.i held them while he tack welded them.

Are you related to Bill Shirley that raced for Chrysler back in 64 and 65,
I knew him and was at a dinner with a bunch of Ford and Chrysler guys in Royal Oak, Mich. Bill sat beside Bruce "greasy" Gowland and Lee Iacocca. I was with Don Havers and Gene McCrikkart (sp) from the Hot Rod Shop in Detroit (where they built Doug Nashs' cars) There were a couple other Chrysler guys there but my memory fails me.

The Mopar racer was Bill Shirey (there was no l in his name).

Great story!! My friend Mike Strickler has some great photos from the '62 Nats. Mike is Dave's son and the photos were taken by Dave's father. Here are a few.

Looks like the photos on pages 26 & 27 in the "Grumpy's Toys" book,,, a must have for any Bill Jenkins fan.
