i did same thing on my car except made a removable gusset that was adjustable and mounted on back side of the rear

I use Nickle Cast 55 stick rods with the flux removed to tig weld the axle tube to the case.
I always pre heat to draw any oil residue out ,clean with acetone then reheat to 250*before welding

Replaced the factory tubes with DOM (Drawn over Mandrel) tubing. Had a local chassis builder press in the new tubes and weld them to the center section. Once installed he then welded the "Big" Ford housing ends to the tubes.
