Forgive me..I don't know who you are.
Have you ever been to an NHRA Divisional race, even WITH alcohol cars present?
It doesn't matter that you don't know who I am. I was just pointing out that Sportsman racing is doing just fine. NHRA and IHRA just are behind the times, where they used to be in the forefront. Just like the period when this video was made. That style of racing is similar to todays small tire stuff. It was cutting edge, new technology, just like the small tire guy now. I grew up in it. My father raced Gas classes, (held B/Gas record in '66 with a Henry J , and B/Modified Compact record with a VW Bug in the mid/late 70's. Back then even the local tracks ran a weekly program with Modifeds/Gassers and SuperStocks that ran with no breakout. I grew up watching guys like Mike Saye and Bill Howell race locally, (listed because they both did pretty well on the national scene also.) And yes I've been to my share of divisional races, and National events. I've owned a couple hundred drag cars (I like to buy and sell them). I have never personally driven at a divisional or national event, although I have crewed a few times. (Stock, Gasser, Top Sportsman, Pro Stock and Pro Modified) Not that any thing I post here matters anyway, but I am a lifelong fan of drag racing, (since I have been around it in one way or another for all of my 53 years) so it bothers me when people act like drag racing is dying out, when in reality, it continues to grow. I wish the NHRA stayed more current with the times, but we all know that probably will not happen in our lifetime, lol

If that's what you want to believe, then maybe so. But if you watch the video, the racing shown was the equivalent of todays small tire type racing. Cutting technology running on the edge. So the spectators came to see it.

No red lights in those days. Starting line anticipation won a lot of races. Harrells and Rondas cars were bad ***.
