Max Wedge info

I'm building a 440 stroker motor for a max wedge clone. The car will be street driven and make a few passes down the strip occasionally. I'm thinking of using a hydraulic roller, aluminum heads and of course the max wedge intake. Any ideas on which heads, Eldelbrock or Indy? Intakes, A & A or Indy? Looking at 10.25 c.r., 3.91 or 4.10 gear and running a 727 trans. Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!

It really depends how much you want to spend.

If it were me and it would be primarily a street car I would go with the Edelbrock heads and the A&A crossram with Eldelbrock carbs. I'd go with the 3.91's and a convertor between 2500 and 3000 stall.

If you want to go faster at the strip you'll have to give up some driveability on the street.

X2+ On the edelbrock heads and A+A intake.

I wouldn't got less than a 3500 stall on the convertor.
I ahd one on the street, it was a 498 " er. With 4.56's.
I ran a 4500 stall after trying many others.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the response. I was leaning toward the Edelbrocks and A & A's intake. The motor is going in a 64 Savoy, should be a fun ride. Leaf springs and Cal-Tracs on the rear, upgraded brakes and aftermarket K-frame. I'll post pictures someday, hopefully by spring. I think a lot will depend on the body shop getting things done.

Actually you need to talk to your cam guy about matching cam to the convertor.....the more radical the cam the more stall you'll need.

The edelbrock rpm heads have std port sizes, so you will need an A&A std port cross ram. Steve Magneta did a good article on a buildup of a similar motor in Mopar Muscle. The rpm heads can be ported to max wedge size, but they get thin and most shops recommend welding. The victor heads and Indy 440-1 are max wedge size, but will require a more expensive offset rocker. If the majority will be on the street, stick with the stock port.
