Default Re: OBD II Code reader

I bought the AutoEnginuity unit about a year ago and love it. As mentioned, it does far more than just reading the basic codes: You can purchase, at your leisure, additional capability to read the manufacturers “enhanced” interfaces.

They constantly upgrade the software, which is a simple download. Also, you can save a couple of dollars if you purchase the basic unit from them on Ebay, rather than their website: Click here for the Ebay listing.

Whatever you buy, get a pc/laptop based unit. Those other products that have some hand-held hardware would seem to be nothing more than a tiny chunk of a laptop that would never have the capability or expansion possibilities of a real computer.

What about the Equus Innova 3100a? Seems to get good reviews...

Thumbs up Re: OBD II Code reader

Dave -- the one on Ebay seems like the one to buy -- I'm going to order one to use at home........

I use the Snap On scanner and trouble shooter. It reads the manufacturers codes and generic. It also give tons more information as far as voltage readings and much more. Very versitile tool. Bought it on ebay for $400. It is current to 2001.

All the feedback is certainly appreciated. Honestly I knew nothing about the pc based setup. It sure looks like the way to go. I will do a little more reading up on it and then make a purchase. Looks like I can get the unit and as I get better at using it i can get more upgrades.

Thanks to all that responded and keep the info coming as it will be a week or so before I make a move.

Thanks , Dave
