16 volt batteries
Thinking about going to 16 volt batteries. Tried to use the search function and no help. Really not concerned about light weight, just 16 volts batteries and charger. Not interested In Lithium. Too controversial.

Re: 16 volt batteries
I run 2 Turbo Starts in both of my SS cars as I need the extra weight regardless to meet minimum weight. For what it's worth, when I switched to 16V from 12, I made no changes, just bolted them in, fuel pressure, etc did not change. Interestingly, I was just this week getting my #2 car out of 'mothballs', it had not been fired in over 18 months and the 10 year old Turbo Starts were still at 15.9 volts after sitting for that long so no complaints. Neither of my cars have charging systems, I usually charge between rounds just to be safe but they can easily run a full day without.

Re: 16 volt batteries
I have no personal experience with 16 volt batteries but as you know many use and like them.
One thing to consider, not the first time I have mentioned this here. My son manages the local Interstate Battery dealership. It is not unusual, especially during a big race in Tulsa to get a desperate call from a racer whose 16v battery had taken a dump. He does not stock them and few places do. Now if you have a car that can quickly go back to 12v no problem, if not... |
