Default Bearings/lube

There are a couple of threads on here about wheel bearing lube and rear gear lube.
That just brings up something I have noticed and am wondering what others think.
I have owned several cars built by others.
I have noticed that on the rear axle some have the wheel bearing's inner seal removed, others run with the bearing "sealed".
Anyone have any thoughts?

Adger,

Sealed axle bearings are used in many applications. FWD cars and late model cars with struts have sealed bearings that last for a long time. Non sealed bearings require additional lubrication just like in rear axles. What I have done in the past with sealed bearings is to pop out the seals, wash out the grease and replace the the original grease with a high end synthetic grease and put back the seals.

Adger,

Any of those will work with the Kluber NBU 15 being the best. It was developed for high load/high speed machinery and will deter corrosion and keep water away.

Check out the product sheet.

It's only $23.00/tube, not $100.00.

We are talking about the same price , I was quoting a 400 gram tube , like a grease gun would take , and you were quoting a 50 gram tube , like you buy toothpaste in . Still pretty pricey stuff !

I believe that Kluber NBU 15 is a grease used for High speed spindles.

There are seals that go in the axle tubes next to the carrier keeping lube out of the tubes. When you take off most of the lube ends up in the tubes. When running these seals you need less lube for the gears. Sealed bearings are meant to use there own lube and keep gear lube from making a mess of your brakes. Tom
