Let me make it clear that I am in favor of more and better tear downs. When a record is set or the automatic hp factor is hit a tear down should follow. Win your class at Indy and you should be torn down and running in the eliminator bracket. I just don't think that an engine builder wants the competition checking valve angles, honing patterns, etc.. Put people like Travis in charge, turn them loose, and back them up.

When I buy an engine, it's my engine, if I decide to take it some where else to freshen or whatever I choose then it gets looked over anyway.

Taking it to someone you choose is a lot different than having your competitors look at it. But that's just me.

If you get torn down, do competitors & other engine builders get to look at your stuff?
Back when I was younger, somewhat fast at times, setting records & getting protested (had brown hair, and all of it then) Red Anderson did not let anybody not directly involved with my car watch. Carroll Caudle did my machine work. I set the record at Houma, LA a couple of times. Once, red ran Carroll off when he was getting ready to look at mine. He ran other racers off about every time I tore down. Friend of mine (James Lee) that helped me tear it down had to stay away while he inspected it. Carroll wanted to verify he was measuring everything the same way Red did. I think Red was thinking Carroll was wanting to find a way to slip something past him. That was not Carroll's way. LOL
I don't feel like other builders or racers should see inside my stuff. Why allow it?

My feelings exactly, why should someone get a free look?

That's just why most Pro Stock engines are leased!
