Default ideal oil tempreture for drag racing

Anyone have any hard data on ideal oil tempreture for maximum consistency, performance, and protection?

Is there a difference between synthetic and conventional oil?

How about the weight of the oil?

I like to leave at 190 degrees. Monitoring trans temp has also been worth something. The trick for me is leaving at 190 oil temp with 105 water temp. I run conventional break in LAT oil.

Really hard to get oil too hot in a drag engine cause we run with the water so cold. Unless you don't run water.lol

You can get the oil temp up around 175 with an oil heater but when you head up to the lanes the cool engine will suck the heat right out of the oil.

We have customers that have went to one of our diapers just for this reason. They can contain oil temp better with no water temp problems .

The viscosity of oil is gonna be big factor in best temp.
About all my knowledge of this is on dyno w/20/50 at that weight between 190-210 is about best for HP below 190 or over 210 usaully see noticable difference. The trick on dyno is you can have those oil temps w/only 160-170 water.

I'm sure w/thinner oil you get away with lower temps than 190,if was doing some dyno testing you could find answer easy then.
I used to have oil temp gauge in my car, usaully ran real close to water temp160-170 like others have said it's hard to get hot oil and cool water @ same time
With 20wt.oil I would guess that 150-170 would be getting close to oil temp for best HP.
Dennis, plan on one of diapers soon keeping oil temp in is one thing I had thought it may help, don't really like to talk about thing they are made for,LOL

The benefits of synthetic oil have been well documented for decades, most notably for this conversion is that it's lubrication properties are more stable over a greater temperature swing than conventional oil and significantly better at extreme temps, both low and high.

That said, the only oil I have run in my race engines for the past 23 years and for thousands of passes is Mobil 1 5W-30. Further, my engines typically go ~ 500 passes/2 seasons before being freshened.

As to consistency, I'm a firm believer that it starts and ends with the one wearing the brain bucket. What he/she does from the moment they strap on their hemet is far more important to consistency than the type/weight of oil they run.

BTW, I also run synthetic trans fluid and gear lube too.

BTW 2, I also run a diaper from DIAPERMAN for oil retention rather than oil temperature. Saved my a s s and car already, great product and great customer service.
