If that's the stock iron 63-65 340 horse 409 intake,no wonder. just look at the #6 intake port at the flange. The whole W motor engine family had the most horrible intakes ever cast up. If they knew then what we know now!! That's the main reason that engine didn't breathe as well as it should have. Your dyno results showed a nice flat long power curve, making that engine way more useful. Amazing what a little technology does!!

“That Canadian guy….Bruneau…damm, we sure are lucky he wasn’t racing 35 years ago. He would have been major trouble.”
Comment that would probably be made today….from Bob Glidden to Jim Headrick. (I know Headrick is gone, but I digress.) |

Hey Aubrey
I am doing a 1963 409 For fellar. This thang was so rusty that I let it sit in weak Hydro-Chloric acid for 8 hrs so I could see what it wus. Have installed one sleeve, 4 businhgs in lifters. and 3 different main caps. Then had to bore to .085 over to get a ring to fit. Ross made the pistons. This motor is complete and numbers matching down thru the carburetors. Then he wants me to build him a 482 CI with Edelbrock heads. Now got another customer bring another from Alabama. Man am having a ball as I had a 63 around 1970. And the sound of 2 AFB's coming in still makes cold chills run up ur back. reed |

Gotta love that.... I looked into a patent. Yes, it was patentable... product with a widely used design, in an application never done.
However, patent lawyers explained to me, that all the patent does, is give me the leverage when I sue somebody for copying it. great Hopefully those production "leaches" realize that the market is so small, that there need only be one of us stupid enough to try and recover their investment,, yet alone make money from it. Thanks, Bunk... though I have a bad feeling that 35 years ago, I would havev been hot rodding flat head V8's... oh, wait a second.... 35 years ago, I WAS hot rodding flat head V8's ! !
