We were turning 7800 with the 427 at Bowling Green this weekend, with 255 on the seat, and 600 open. We have too much open right now, I need to change springs.

What will hurt ceramic lifters is low spring pressure, resulting in a loss of valvetrain control. They do not like to bounce, whether it is on the ramp, or over the nose (commonly called "lofting") and that is where you'll see them break.

In your opinion, for less than 7k, do you believe that 200seat/400-450open will work? Or should i shoot for a little more?

Not knowing your combination as I do ours, I really can't say. I got a lot of help from fellow racers and fellow engine builders, as well as cam grinders to find what our combination likes. You should speak with your cam guy, and with people running similar combinations. Some engines that run at a lower RPM use more aggressive cam lobes, and still need as much spring pressure as higher RPM engines.

THanks...Im gonna call Chris @ Comp and give him my combo( i have a comp cam) to see what he says about it...im sure he can help me... I appreciate the responses...

Chris will give you good advice, he is one of the best guys to deal with for Stock and Super Stock cams and valvetrain.

Any reason to run restrictors , with Smith Machine lifters?

Yes to keep the oil in the pan and going to the mains and rods., especially with roller rockers. SOP with 400's in our deal

Are the oil feed holes on the side of the lifter and not in the oil band if so they are all ready restricted no need to use restrictors.
