Bracket race at MIR around 2000 or so, a guy over there had a old alky funny car that he had put a blown small block chevy in and would run 7:20's. I ran him with my stocker, with 8 cars left and won...Ironically enough Frank Gugliotta (now running Pro Stock) gave me the left or right option (turn when leaving the gate), the next round with his Top Sportsman car and went on to win it. Now Dave Audet, who sometimes still races his 69 Camaro F/SA car was there in his toyota dialed a 19:22 against the old funny car earlier that day. That was the oddest run i've ever seen....

A 3 cylinder 2 stroke Saab back in the late 60s at Miami Dragway. The guy was claiming the single carb HP but running the 3 carb Rally pak motor. My partner went down to his shop and got him BSing about his car & he told him about the dopes he was outrunning every week with the K/S 59 Biscayne. He was then introduced to the half owner/dope of said 59, never showed up again either.

A diesel tractor during a Gamblers' race at Englishtown. Even in my street car I spotted him something like 7 seconds.

I didn't race against him but when I was last at Sonoma I saw the "Karmann Ghetto", an old VW racing in Super stock--SS/VX. He was running tens. I think he set a record. My team has a '70 Chrysler T&C that races in Super Street. I actually looked it up as a stocker combo but fugetabowdit!

One other odd vehicle I raced against back in the mid t late 80`s was a little 50cc crotch rocket. I was dialed in the mid 18`s and had to chase by 9 seconds. Luckily he missed a shift and I passed him at the 1000'. My "friends" were all pulling for the bike.

Several years ago, there was an ex Sand Drag racer who converted his tube chassis, aluminum body Jeep to dragstrip duty. It had a supercharged Pontiac "Slant 4" (basically one side of a 389 V8, used in the early Tempest cars),the engine was mounted behind the driver. I believe it burned alcohol, and ran in the high 8 second range, and had a very unique sound to it. It must have been a handfull before, running those scooped paddle tires in the sand.

Come on Hawk, I don't know about those friends, but I'm a friend of yours, and I'd have been rootin' for you man...it would've been cool to see you chasing after that bike too (something we seldom get to do huh?). The only way I'd like that race more, is if I were you chasing him!!!
