How did the name throttle stop come about. To me throttle go would be more accurate. "Throttle stop" does not sound like they should be used in the same sentence. I think throttle go sounds better than throttle stop. Like My throttle was go for 6.0 seconds Another phrase is trans break, is another one, that should not be used in the same sentence. There is another one but I cannot think of it right now. I think if every one talks throttle go for so many seconds, it sounds better. Does not sound negative as throttle stop or I was on the stop for 6 seconds. "You were on the stop for six seconds and won. How is that?"

Throttle Stop is called that because it is a replacement for a bolt underneath the pedal that prevented you from opening the throttle beyond a specific point -- it stopped the throttle. But then they went from the bolt to a device that moved the throttle to a specific position for a specific amount of time.

It's not a Trans "break", it is a Trans Brake. It is a way of braking (stopping/holding) the transmission. Even that is a misnomer, as it isn't really a brake, it's just a way to engage both first and reverse simultaneously. But it has the effect of a brake.
