Question Clutch Help

A friend that I help has a 63 Corvette Gran Sport clone , one of those Road Racer things! He is haveing clutch trouble as in it is starting to slip. He doesn't have any oil leakage problems, it's adjusted right, and only about 400 mi of pretty hard driveing ! It's got a 572 Chevy Crate motor, the720hp version, with a 5 spd, and a 4.10 rear gear! The tires are some road race stickys, about12" wide, the car weighs approx ,2400 # w/driver, and it now has a Centerforce clutch thats starting to go away ! I suggested a dual disc, I just didn't know about brands ,or who to see ! Anybody got any Ideas ? The car is mint and it's been to Bloomington several times , just to screw with some of the judges ! Thanks in advance , John

That car shouldn't need a trick clutch. But I don't think anything Centerforce has is up to the task. I'd be looking at a Borg & Beck / Long style pressure plate with some centrifugal assist, and a sprung hub paddle clutch, probably 6 pucks, with a moderately aggressive friction material.

There are several dual disk units from just about any seller that would probably be appropriate for this application. Any would depend on the level of work the guy wants to put into it (is this track only?). A dual disk diaghram unit would be the easiest to set up (just bolt it in) and if he's not into setting records for lap times and just wants to go have fun, it should be fine IMO. But if he has sticky track tires and is putting a big load on everything, it could break parts and or loose traction (could cause a wreck) just like a drag car. You can adjust the slippage on a diaghram clutch by increasing the installed height. I would suggest a data logger is a necessity if he's looking for that level of tuning.
