While lookin up SS results, I found that Lee Bannister qualified @ .852 under, at Belle Rose, and made it to round 4.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop And I read that he won at least 4 nat events, with that Bird. So, that car & driver did very well. Would love to know what smaller races he won with that car and with any other Pontiacs he raced. I noticed that NHRA lets some small things go, on some cars. For example: This car has a Formula hood, with T/A Fender vents. I know of a car that runs as a '73 Formy, which has '71 Bird fender vents. And, I know of another Pontiac which has no front turn signals. I assume that NHRA techs figure there is no performance advantage, so unless a competitor complains, they just let it go. I know that in the old days, some NHRA techs were a LOT more picky about details. Appears that the name of Lee's car is "Bushwacker". Last edited by oldskool; 01-16-2020 at 06:02 AM. |
